Labour day

Labour day-

Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel won an eight-hour day in Wellington. Labour Day was first celebrated in New Zealand on 28 October 1890, when several thousand trade union members and supporters attended parades in the main centres.

3 things that I have learned about labour day:

1- It's a public holiday.

2-its on 28th of October.

3-Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day

  1. Thanks Hassan. I appreciate your post about Labour Day. There was a long time between Samuel Parnell's first refusal to work more than eight hours and legislation that limited the hours people work in a week. Did an eight-hour work day ever become a law?
