Black death

Rats in
General
Black
Rats
Brown
Rats
Fleas
Jump as much as 200 times their body length.

Can feed on almost anything edible.

Feed on the blood of a host.

Weight up to 450 grams.
Lays egg on the hair of animals, in dirt and rubbish.

Do not rely so much on people.

Weigh about 200 grams.

                                    And then the flea
                                    Sucks the plague
And then jumps on to humans.

Infected Rodent
A rat has the plague                             and then     human pass

                                                             it to the other human

First rats would get infected and then they passed it to fleas and then the fleas passed it to humans. And then people would get infected by the person who had the black death.
Fleas and Rats spread black death. Firstly the rats had the plague, this shows how easily the B.D

Expansion

Expansion:

Applying heat

Contraction:

cooling down

-Aim: To observe contraction in gases.

-Hypothesis: I think the water gonna evaporate and the can would cool down.

Tea bag rockets

Teabag rockets

Today we learned about Convection in chemicals class and we did an experiment called teabag rockets.

Aim:

To observe convection in real life.

Equipment

Teabag without tea, lighter.

Method:

First of all, we have to empty the teabag and set it up and use the lighter to fire it.

Result

The teabag was flying on the air and it's because the particles are spreading out cause its hotter and it makes fly and that called convection.

Thanks and hope you have cool day.

Diffusion

Diffusion: Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high construction to the area of low construction.

Aim: To observe diffusion in a liquid.

Equipment: Petri dish, water, tweezers, a crystal of potassium permanganate.

Method:

  1. Half fill your petri dish with cold tap water.
  2. Place the petri dish on your workbench and allow the water to become settled.
  3. Using the tweezers, place a single crystal of potassium permanganate in the center of the petri dish.
  4. observe for 5 minutes.
  5. Repeat the experiment using hot water.

Result:

In cold water: Diffused slower

In warm water: Diffused faster

Discussion: hot diffused faster and heat of the water made the particles break apart faster, and because cold is thicker it made the particles break apart slower.

Matter

Matter:

The matter is almost everything around you, everything that has mass or takes space is matter.

the different state of matter:

solid: particles are not moving

Liquid: particles move not to fast

Gas: Particles move quickly.

Solid to liquid:  melting

gas to liquid: condence

liquid to gas: evaporating

liquid to solid: freezing

Mount Vesuvius erupts

Mount Vesuvius erupts, city abandoned for years

WHAT HAPPENED……….
On August 24, after centuries of dormancy. Mount Vesusive erupts in southern Italy, devastating the prosperous Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and killing thousands. The cities, buried under a thick layer of volcanic material and mud, were never rebuilt and largely forgotten in the course of history. 2000 people died in this and the city was abandoned for many years.
shrouded the city in “darkness…like the black of closed and unlighted rooms.” Two thousand people died, and the city was abandoned for almost as many years.

\WHO WAS INVOLVED (INTERVIEWS)
Pliny the Younger, a Roman historian who witnessed the 79 AD eruption, write the oldest surviving description of the tall, tree-shaped, cloud that rose above the volcano, said, “On 24 August, in the early afternoon, my mother drew [my uncle's] attention to a cloud of unusual size and appearance. Its general appearance can be best expressed as being like an umbrella pine, for it rose to a great height on a sort of trunk and then split off into branches, I imagine because it was thrust upwards by the first blast and then left unsupported as the pressure subsided, or else it was borne down by its own weight so that it spread out and gradually dispersed. Sometimes it looked white, sometimes blotched and dirty, according to the amount of soil and ashes it carried with it."

Evaporation Experiment

HELLOOO, We have been learning about Evaporation, Dilution, Filtration, Solubility, last week we
did an experiment about dilution, and this week we will do an experiment about Evaporation.

                                        Evaporation

Aim: To evaporate, copper, sulfate( blue liquid to form a solute.

Equipment:

  • copper sulfate solution
  • 250 mL Beaker
  • heatproof mat
  • evaporation basin
  • element

Method:

  1. Set up element
  2. Add 100mL of hot water to the beaker and place it on the element.
  3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.
  4. Carefully, place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker.
  5. Turn on the element to 3
  6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.
  7. Turn off the element- careful not to touch as it will be hot for a long time.

Observations: There was a bubble on the water it was because the water was boiling

Discussion: Because when the liquid got heat up the bubbles were going up in the water and boiling.

Evaluation: As we can see the water is boiling and the liquid getting hit up and its turning to liquid to a gas.
